Football emerges in Biscay in the late 19th century as Bilbao and its surrounding areas experience a period of rapid industrial development. The sport was initially brought to Bilbao by British migrant workers and young Basques who had studied in Britain. The enthusiasm for this new sport inspires the birth of Athletic Club in 1898.
The club was founded in 1930 and by 1935 was already in the playoff of the Spanish second division attempting to reach the top Spanish division, La Liga. Girona finished the league in third place with 81 points in a historic season that became the best in the 93 years of the Club's existence. Girona FC has made HISTORY in capital letters.
